Idiopathic

Idiopathic is relating to, or designating a disease having no known cause.

Idiopathic hypersomnia

Idiopathic hypersomnia is characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness over a long period of time. The symptoms are present all, or nearly all, of the time. Idiopathic hypersomnia is much like narcolepsy except there is no cataplexy, no sleep paralysis, and no rapid eye movement when the victim first falls asleep.

Imidazopyridines

are a class of nonbenzodiazepine drugs related (in terms of their effect) to benzodiazepines. They include Zolpidem (Ambien) and Alpidem.

Inappropriate Sleep Episodes

Inappropriate Sleep Episodes are the periods of sleep that are not planned and often occur in an unsafe situation such as while driving. Sleep deprivation is the main cause for these episodes.

Insomnia

Insomnia is the inability to fall asleep or remain asleep for an adequate length of time. It is commonplace for several people to suffer at least an occasional night of almost non-existent sleep. It is when the occasional night here and there becomes a pattern of several nights in a row that you are faced with a sleeping problem.

Inspiratory Phase

Inspiratory Phase is the part of the breathing cycle during which air is inhaled.

Intermediary Sleep Stage

"Intermediary" Sleep Stage is a term that is sometimes used for non-REM stage 2 sleep.

Invasive is relating to a medical procedure in which a part of the body is entered, as by puncture or incision .

IPAP/Inspiratory Positive Airway Pressure

IPAP is the acronym of Inspiratory Positive Airway Pressure. The pressure prescribed by a physician for the inspiratory phase on a Bi-level CPAP device, used in the treatment of OSA.

Jetlag

Jetlag or desynchronosis, is a temporary condition that some people experience following air travel across several time zones in a short period of time. A person who travels between different time zones need time for his or her internal body clock to reset itself and adjust to the new time zone.

K Alpha

K Alpha is a kind of micro-arousal where a K complex is followed by several seconds of alpha rhythm.

K Complex is an EEG waveform that occurs during stage 2 sleep. It consists of a brief high-voltage peak, usually greater than 100
