ScienceDaily (Dec. 17, 2007) - A new study demonstrates an association between short sleep times and obesity in patients with chronic medical problems.
The study surveyed 200 patients attending internal medicine clinics to determine their sleep habits, lifestyle characteristics, and medical diagnoses.
According to the results, subjects with short sleep times (less than seven hours) had a significantly increased likelihood of obesity defined by a body mass index greater than 30 kg/meters2 when compared to the reference group of eight to nine hours.

Obesity is the problem which occurs due to several reasons. Out of all, sleeping time is also one of the major reasons.
According to the latest research it has been proved that people who obtains short sleep or long sleep and who have some chronic medical problems will attain the problem of obesity more quickly when compared to other normal people.
Especially, this is more acceptable in women. Women who obtain short sleep as well as long sleep were more likely prone to the problem of obesity.
The research has also proved that there was a U shaped relationship between sleeping time and obesity for women where as men obtains more exceptions to this problem.
The people who are suffering with chronic medical problems and obesity will obtain more changes in their physical activities and they are more likely to pay less interest in the things which have to be performed.
The mind of these people will be disturbed and they will be totally confused in almost all the tasks which have to be performed by them.
The research has also proved that there exists a sturdy relationship between sleeping time and obesity. People who have some sleep disorders will certainly gain the weight more easily and there are more chances to obtain several health problems by these people.
The neck part will get thicker for these people and they will gain more weight (which leads to obesity) with in short period of time. It is one of the most common symptoms to recognize this problem more easily.
Treatment has also been found out for this problem which is named as continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). Good results are obtained with this treatment for the people who are suffering with some chronic medical problems linked to obesity.
