Naps Help Your Memory, New Study Suggests

A ninety minute daytime nap helps speed up the process of long term memory consolidation, a recent study conducted by Prof. Avi Karni and Dr. Maria Korman of the Center for Brain and Behavior Research at the University of Haifa found. “We still don’t know the exact mechanism of the memory process that occurs during sleep, but the results of this research suggest the possibility that it is possible to speed up memory consolidation, and in the future, we may be able to do it artificially,” said Prof. Karni.

According to the latest research, people who take naps in the daytime will be more active when compared to the people who don’t take naps at the day time. To prove this statement, experts have conducted experiment on the two groups of people.

The first group consists of the people who take little naps at the morning time; where as the other group consists of the people who don’t take naps at the morning time. They made the first group to take a nap for some period of time where as the second group is awaken.

After the first group woke-up, they made the two groups to perform the work. The first group which was made to take a nap for some period of time was active enough when compared to the other group which doesn’t took a nap for little bit of time in the morning hours.

Coming to the memory levels, the first group is sharper when compared to the second group. With the enough rest, the brain will get sharper and it can be able to remember the things more easily.

The same thing has happened to the first group. The memory levels of the first group are comparatively more than the second group.

The reason regarding why second group is lacking in memory when compared to the first group is: without enough rest, the brain will get tired and it will not be able to remember the things for the long period of time.

Other than remembrance, confusion will also be attained. People who don’t sleep for enough time will be confused a lot on performing the simple or easy tasks.
