Altered Sex Hormone Levels, Higher Body Temperature May Be Associated With Poorer Sleep Quality In Older Postmenopausal Women

In an examination of potential relationships between objective sleep measures, nocturnal sex hormone levels, and the nocturnal course of body temperature of older postmenopausal women, altered levels of both sex hormones and gonadotropins may contribute to sleep disturbance in older postmenopausal women and confirm the results of previous studies indicating that higher body temperature is associated with poorer sleep quality.

Sleep disorders are seen more in the postmenopausal women due to their altered sex hormone levels, gonadotropin and higher body temperatures. Improper sleep or disturbed sleep itself is responsible for the increase of body temperature in postmenopausal women.

Research has been conducted on 10 women who are aged between 57 to 71 years and who have at least five years of post menopause.

It has been proved that these women have several sleep disorders and their body temperatures are more when compared to the other women who don’t have the problem of post menopause.

The research has also found that lower estradiol (E2) and higher luteinizing hormone (LH) are responsible for the poor sleep in postmenopausal women because these two will increase the body temperature and make them feel inconvenient while sleeping.

Some physical changes will also occur in the women in their menopause stage. They look weak and their energy levels will also be not up to the mark due to several changes in their hormones.

Fibromyalgia is one most common problem which will be developed in women at their menopause stage. Both men and women will be affected with the problem of this fibromyalgia, but 80% of the people who are suffering with fibromyalgia will be women.

This problem will affect the people who are aged in between 50 to 70 years. The pain which occurs in the sufferers of fibromyalgia makes them to feel difficult to attain proper sleep during their sleeping time.

According to the suggestion of the experts, women must sleep at least 7 to 8 hours during night time to be healthy and active.
