Longer Working Hours To Cost Good Night Sleep!

Prolonged work days that often extend late into the night may cause Americans to fall asleep or feel sleepy at work, drive drowsy and lose interest in sex, according to a new Sleep in America poll released by the National Sleep Foundation (NSF). Spending an average of nearly 4.5 hours each week doing additional work from home on top of a 9.5 hour average workday, Americans are working more and are trying to cope with the resulting daytime sleepiness.

Americans are working over time than the average work per day. As the productivity and competition are increasing, the work burden on each individual is increasing. Deadlines are given to complete that work.

To meet these deadlines, many people take the work to home apart from working full time at the job. After working fulltime at the job, you reach home. After reaching home, you have to look after your children, cook for all of them and make the home clean.

After completing cooking and dinner, you have to look after the studies of the kids. When the kids go to sleep, you will then start doing office work. When you go to bed, it will be late night. You will not get 8 to 9 hours of enough sleep daily. You will also face problem in getting your kids to bed on time.

When you go to bed also, you will not sleep immediately. You will be worried about your project completion and think how you can complete it. Therefore, your sleep will be less than five hours daily.

This schedule continues daily and you will be on sleep debt. As you become sleep deprived, you can’t concentrate on your work, fight or argue with other employees at office, shout on your kids and fight with your spouse.

As there will be arguments and fights with spouse, you will not have sex regularly. Sleep deprivation also reduces your interest in sex.

You have to recognize the problems and try to solve the problems with your spouse. Do not take office work to home. Leave the office related tensions in office and come home with fresh mind. Don’t think about the project work after coming home.

Sit and talk to your spouse and share some feelings. Play with your kids. Go for an evening walk with your family to relax.

Practice some relaxation techniques like yoga, meditation and deep breathing before going to bed. These techniques relax your mind and help in getting a good night sleep. Have a warm shower bath to relax your self. It will make you to sleep sooner.

Do not neglect sleep and give complete importance to office work. You have to maintain office work and sleep in their places so that you will be active and can work efficiently.
