Many people who are suffering with obstructive sleep apnea are turning towards complementary and alternative therapies (CAM) for treatment. Before using these CAM therapies, it is best to take the advice from the doctor, but CAM therapies are now replacing traditional treatments.

There are many alternative therapies to treat sleep apnea. Acupuncture, nutrition therapy, and homeopathy are likely to have a positive effect.

Acupuncture and sleep apnea:

Identifying the acupuncture body points and inserting needles is the way of treating sleep apnea. Acupressure is a technique to apply mild pressure to the acupuncture body points. It can be done by pinching the point lightly between thumb and finger. The body points should be related to sleep issues to induce sleep and treat sleep apnea.

Nutrition therapy:

Try to eliminate mucus producing foods for few days and introduce again. Notice the difference. Essential fatty acids reduce inflammatory response and reduce allergies. Therefore, include fish oil, flaxseed oil, and evening primrose oil as they contain essential fatty acids.

Chromium is effective in stabilizing blood sugar and reducing the sugar cravings. Chromium helps in regulating insulin and decreasing insulin resistance. Take advice of the doctor before taking chromium if you are pregnant or having diabetes.

Homeopathy:

There are many homeopathic medicines used for the treatment of sleep apnea. Arsenic album is used for respiratory disorders that worsen at night. Opium is prescribed for people with sleep apnea and narcolepsy.

Spongia is used for respiratory symptoms that become worse by cold air or while lying down. This is also useful for people who feel tightness in the chest.

Sambacus is used for breathing difficulties at night. This can be helpful for people who have nasal obstruction or asthma.

Flower remedy or essence therapy:

Vervain flower remedy is sued to treat people suffering with sleep apnea. Veravin has calming essence, which helps in treating sleep apnea.

Before going for CAM therapies, find out with the doctor whether these therapies are suitable for you or not.
