According to the latest research, adults who are suffering with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can accomplish sleep benefits with methylphenidate, including the restoration value of the sleep and increased sleep efficiency.
The study was conducted in the central institute of mental health in Mannheim regarding methylphenidate and its benefits in adults with ADHD.
In the study, they chose 34 non-medicated adult patients who are suffering with ADHD, whom 24 patients don’t have, any psychiatric disorder. All of them have given the same type of treatment with methylphenidate [Tips for coping ADHD].
Good results were found with this research; all 34 members have altered sleep architecture and they showed a trend towards reduced REM (reduced eye movement) density and elevated percentage of wakefulness after the sleep.
The research also said that the subjective and objective sleep problems, which are seen in adults with ADHD will be similar to that of the children who are suffering with ADHD, including more nocturnal activities, more nocturnal awakenings, reduced sleep efficiency, longer sleep latencies, etc.
Methylphenidate is most commonly used prescription stimulant used to treat ADHD. Chronic fatigue syndrome and daytime drowsiness symptoms of narcolepsy can also be treated with methylphenidate. This medication will certainly give relief for the people who are suffering with severe sleep problems and it will also support the overall sense of well being and good health.
