Bruxism: Unusual Grinding Of Teeth In Sleep!

If you are anxious about bruxism in your kid, then don’t need to be because this is the most common condition experienced by many children and it doesn’t cause any serious harm to your kid’s health.

However, teeth grinding is mainly caused when you experience severe stress or anxiety.

Usually, bruxism happens in sleep and often caused by abnormal biting or crooked teeth. Not only children, even adults can experience this sort of teeth grinding at sometime in their life.

How does bruxism affect your kid’s tooth health?

Normally, bruxism doesn’t cause any harm to your child’s teeth. Most of the bruxism cases usually go undetected without any adverse effects. But, at times, your kid can experience mild earache or morning headaches.

However, the grinding sound made by your kid can become most bothersome issue for you and also for your other family members.

If your kid is experiencing extreme levels of bruxism, it can lead to increased temperature sensitivity, chip teeth and also results in diminishing of tooth enamel.

Even, it is possible that your kid can suffer with severe jaw problems and facial pain. But, all these conditions mainly take place in very rare cases, unless and until the grinding or clenching of tooth is chronic.

How can you help your kid to avoid bruxism?

Whether it is caused by any physical or psychological cause, if you succeed in relaxing your kids before bed time, it is possible to control bruxism in kids. Help them in listening to some soothing music or make them to read some interesting books before bed.

If you find that your kid is experiencing bruxism due to stress, try to know the cause for it and find a better way to help them in relieving from stress.

You can also take them to a warm bath or shower that can help your kid to avoid stress in their day. Apart from this, these are certain tips that can help your kid to control bruxism.

  • Cut back certain foods and drinks such as colas and chocolates from your child’s regular diet.
  • If you notice that your kid is chewing pencils or pens or anything that is not food, stop them from chewing. Even, never allow your kid to eat chewing gums that will allow the jaw muscles of your kid to get more used to clenching or grinding.
  • If your kid has a habit of grinding teeth when he\she is angry, train your kid not to clench or grind teeth during sleep or whenever they feel angry or stressed.

Hopefully, these methods can greatly help your kid to control bruxism. So, try to implement these ways to help your kid to avoid grinding teeth.

However, bruxism gradually turns off when your kid enters into adolescent age. So, don’t worry about bruxism in your children and try to help them to get relieved from stress and anxiety in their life.
